Man uses fishing rod to steal Versace necklace from boutique.

A man who spent hours outside a fashion boutique with his fishing rod was arrested for allegedly creating a hole in the window then trying to steal a Versace necklace.

The 43-year-old man made his way to the boutique where he then spent 3 hours by the window trying to steal a $700 gold necklace off a mannequin with a fishing line.

On Monday around 2am he allegedly created a hole in the window at the Le Style store in Little Collins Street, in Melbourne’s CBD.

Calling his act Bold police said that the man 1st used a short rod but was unsuccessful, before he left and came back with a longer rod.

A hook from one of the rods was found by police in the jewellery store.

After a 2-week hunt, investigators raided a home in Melton West – 44km from the scene on Wednesday morning and arrested the unidentified man. 

The man is in custody and expected to be charged with theft and burglary-related offences.
