Norkfolk Police K-9 Attacks NSU Female student (Graphic Video).

High Pitch Count

A Norfolk State University student was attacked and bitten by a police dog early Sunday morning as officers held her down and attempted to handcuff her, according to her father, two friends who were with her at the time and an official with the Norfolk branch of the NAACP.

The friends said in interviews with The Pilot that they saw the dog attack the woman’s leg. One witness said an officer was holding the woman to the ground at the time.

At 7 p.m. Wednesday, after repeated requests for comment throughout the day, Norfolk police Chief Mike Goldsmith said in a prepared statement that the officer involved in the incident has been placed on administrative duty as police investigate.

“This incident is still an active investigation and we continue to interview all witnesses and officers present in the neighborhood,” Goldsmith wrote. “I will also be conducting a thorough review of the policy which dictates the use of police canines.”
