A large group of New York City police officers charged at diners and pedestrians in Manhattan’s West Village on Saturday night, arresting 12 people and raising questions about the aggressive response.

This was not a protest. These men and women that were swarmed and beaten by the @NYPD were mainly everyday people eating at outdoor restaurants. Our city does not have a curfew. People were not blocking traffic. This was nothing more than the @NYPD deciding they wanted to maul and beat people. It’s not just against policy – this is criminal assault. And shame, shame, shame on @NYCMayor for doing absolutely nothing about any of it.
