Parents of a newborn have been charged after their baby was found in the trash.

Louisiana police charged Thelma Kirkland, 30 and Carl Hall, 31 with attempted first-degree murder
after first responders discovered a newborn in the trash an hour after it was born.

Officers responded to an emergency call earlier about a miscarriage on Wednesday February 21, when they noticed a newbornhad been dumped in the trash.

They  told officers that when they arrived, they began treating the mother and then discovered the newborn baby in the trash.

Detectives learned the baby was placed in the trash after it was born and according to the investigation,
the parents waited over an hour to call for help.

It’s unclear if the parents have lawyers.

Kirkland and Hall are booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center, each on a $500,000 bond, according to Corrections Division records.

Police say the child is on life support.
