Woman hit by broken bat suffers life threatening injuries Boston Red Sox Game

A fan was carried off on a stretcher during a game between the Red Sox and Oakland Athletics  Friday night after being hit with a broken bat by Oakland Brett Lawrie on a groundout to second base for the second out of the inning and taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital

“He takes a swing, the bat breaks, the bat goes flying and strikes an innocent lady in the face. “All the fans were very helpful. The staff at Fenway were grade A.”

Boston police spokesman David Estrada said all or part of the bat hit her, and described her injuries as life-threatening. Police said she was sitting with her husband and son.

This is the swing that did it.

According to Boston police, the fan was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where she’s currently receiving treatment for her injuries. The victim, who has not been identified, was sitting with her husband and son at the time.
